Taper for coaches

Coach more athletes, better.

For endurance coaches, strength coaches and gyms

Taper is the analyst and assistant behind your coaching. It reads every session, keeps every week fitting the athlete’s life and handles the everyday questions — so your hours go to the calls only a coach can make, with better information behind each one.

Who does what

You set the direction. Taper does the legwork.

Your judgement

The decisions an athlete hires a coach for.

  • What they’re training for, and the season that gets them there
  • The sessions they train from and the limits they train within
  • What to push, what to hold and what to watch
  • The word on how their week went

Taper’s legwork

The hours of work that sit underneath those decisions.

  • Reading every file the moment it syncs
  • Building each week inside your season, around the athlete’s life
  • Re-planning when a session has to move
  • Answering everyday questions, any hour, the way you coach
A run read by Taper

Already analysed

Open a session and the read is already there.

No more sifting through files. Every session is broken down the moment it syncs — what was run against what was prescribed, and how it compares with the athlete’s own history — so you start from the insight, not the spreadsheet.

  • Like for like: set against their most similar sessions from the last three months
  • Heart rate for the pace held, measured against their own recent norm
  • Heart-rate drift on long efforts, and whether the reps held together

The trajectory

Where every athlete is heading, kept up to date.

Fitness, fatigue and thresholds are recalculated as the training lands, so the picture you judge from is this week’s, not the last time someone had an hour to update a sheet.

  • Fitness and fatigue tracked day by day
  • Thresholds updated from the sessions they actually do
  • Race predictions, and estimated 1RM per lift

Your season

You plan the season. Every week fits their life.

Lay out the phases from now to race day. Taper builds each week inside them, around work, travel and the sessions that can’t move — and when a week falls apart, it re-plans within your rules straight away.

  • Phases, focus and race dates set by you
  • Weeks built around the athlete’s real schedule
  • Changes to the season come to you as a proposal

Your library

The sessions they get are the ones you’d write.

Your library is what Taper schedules from. Start with ours, copy a session and make it yours, or write your own — set the exercises, sets, reps and effort, and tweak a session for one athlete without touching everyone else’s.

  • Use ours, edit a copy, or write from scratch
  • One template for the squad, adjusted per athlete
  • Keep it to your sessions only, if you prefer

Watch-fors

Tell it what to look out for. Hear when it shows up.

A sore Achilles, a habit of going out too hard, a lift that keeps stalling. Leave a note on an athlete and every session is checked against it — and when it appears, it lands in your inbox.

  • Notes in your words, active for as long as you need
  • Checked after every session
  • Flags waiting in your inbox, not buried in a log

For your athletes

Your athletes get more of their coach, not less. A question at 10pm gets an answer shaped by how you coach. A week that falls apart gets rebuilt before the next session. And everything they do reaches you already read — with your name on the review at the end of the week.

Your call

Taper works to your rules.

Planning limits

Your rules for how hard a week can get. Set them once, adjust them per athlete.

  • How fast weekly volume can climb
  • Hours between hard sessions, and quality days per week
  • A ceiling on the long run
  • A deload every few weeks, on your cadence

Weekly reviews

Every week arrives analysed and drafted. You edit it, add your note and sign it off.

  • What was done against what was planned
  • Which sessions earned a step up, and which to hold
  • Anything worth checking in about
  • Hold reviews until you approve them, or let them go out and amend later

Your philosophy

How you coach, written in your own words. Taper coaches the same way.

  • Applied to every athlete you coach
  • A note per athlete for what only they need
  • Carried into the chat, the session reads and the reviews

And when you want to say something yourself, message any athlete from your dashboard — it arrives in their coach chat with a notification.

The more you coach, the more it sounds like you.

It learns from your edits Every review you rewrite becomes a lesson. Drafts start arriving in your voice, and when you keep making the same change, Taper suggests adding it to your philosophy.
Your messages stand out Anything you write is marked as yours in the athlete’s app, so your word never blends into the day-to-day.

FAQ

Questions coaches ask.

Yes. The season, the sessions and the limits are yours, and a review you approve shows your name on it. Messages you send arrive in their coach chat, with a notification.

They can move sessions around inside a week — a late meeting, a trip, a bad night’s sleep — and Taper re-plans the rest within your limits. Changes to the season itself don’t happen on their own: they come to you as a proposal.

No. Use our library as it is, copy sessions and edit them, write your own, or any mix. You can also keep Taper to your library only, so every session an athlete gets is one you wrote.

An iPhone and the app. Taper reads from Apple Watch, Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, WHOOP, Oura and Intervals.icu. A power meter or heart-rate strap sharpens the numbers, but nothing extra is required.

Running, cycling, swimming and strength, in one plan. It suits endurance coaches, strength coaches and gyms, and anyone coaching athletes who do more than one of those.

A coach dashboard in the browser: your roster, each athlete’s season and week, their recent sessions with Taper’s read, your inbox of flags and reviews, and your library.
